AndrewBlakeOklahoma City, OK – Two Oklahoma City Police Department officers saved a man by pulling him out of his burning vehicle, and the rescue was captured on video (video below).
Police said that a vehicle rear-ended another car on the highway on March 29.
That vehicle continued driving, hit a sign post, and then crashed into the ditch, causing it to catch fire, according to KFOR-TV.
Oklahoma City Police Officer Travis Vernier noticed the smoke beside the highway at about 10 p.m. and saw the Nissan Altima on fire.
When police arrived on the scene, there were flames shooting out of the vehicle, according to KFOR.
Raymond Pascher, 40, was the driver of the vehicle, according to KFOR.
In the video, Pascher was holding his cell phone and talking when police arrived.
“Come on out,” an officer told Pascher. “Can you unlock your car? Your car is on fire.”
Pascher could not open the car door so officers broke the window on the driver’s side. Then Officer Vernier and Oklahoma City Police Officer Christopher Tran worked together to pull Pascher out through the window.
The driver screamed in the video as he was pulled through the car’s window.
The officers smelled alcohol on Pascher’s breath as they worked to free him, KFOR reported.
Once freed, Pascher was taken a safe distance from the car and put on the ground, while officers went back to make sure there were no more victims in his car.
He told police officers he didn’t remember what happened and he didn’t know where he was, according to KFOR.
Pascher was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was later charged with driving under the influence, KFOR reported.
There were no other injuries reported.
