VIDEO: Drug-Fueled Inmate Steals Taser, Tries To Shock Two Officers To Escape

Jesse Rose made two unsuccessful attempts to tase the officers, then bit an officer in the arm while trying to escape.

Aransas Pass, TX – A drug-fueled suspect attempted to escape from jail by charging at an officer and stealing her Taser, security footage showed (video below).

He also tried to shock two officers with the commandeered Taser during his escape attempt.

The incident began at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 28, after the Aransas Pass Police Department (APPD) received a report that a man who “appeared to be under the influence of drugs” was wandering around the Walmart parking lot “talking to himself and acting strangely,” the department said in the video release.

Bodycam footage showed the officers as they made contact with 33-year-old Jesse Rose in the Walmart parking lot.

Officers later learned that Rose had an active warrant out for his arrest.

Rose initially tried to wave the officers past him, then wandered over to the open door of a white pickup.

The suspect immediately told police that he didn’t “have a problem” with them, but refused to get out of the vehicle and kept reaching for objects inside.

“Give me some space,” Rose said. “It’s my vehicle. I’m an American citizen, and I was not told what was going on at all.”

“What’s going on? What’s going on?” he said repeatedly, as he snatched his keys off of the dashboard and attempted to start the vehicle. “Please do not kidnap me.”

One officer smashed out the rear passenger side window of Rose’s truck in order to unlock the front door from the inside, as other officers began physically removing the suspect from the vehicle, the video showed.

The officers handcuffed him on the ground, then began calmly asking him if he was under the influence of drugs and if he knew where he was.

Police also located drug paraphernalia at the scene moments later.

Rose was subsequently transported to the local jail.

At approximately 2 p.m., he was taken into the booking area while officers shuffled other inmates around.

“Rose used that opportunity to make his great escape,” the APPD said in the video release.

Security footage showed one officer as she stood in the partially-open doorway to the booking area with a cup in her hand.

A second officer asked her to “keep an eye on Rose,” the department said.

But a moment later, Rose sprang to his feet and charged the officer in the doorway, “and immediately took possession of her Taser,” police said.

The suspect fired the weapon at another officer who rushed into the room, but missed him.

Rose tried to reload the Taser in the hallway.

“Because the Taser was still administering its initial 5-second cycle, the second taser cartridge immediately discharged prematurely when it neared the ‘muzzle’ of the Taser,” the APPD explained.

Rose took off running down the hallway with officers close behind him.

He was taken to the ground, and bit one of the officers in the arm during the ensuing brawl.

Rose was ultimately taken back into custody.

In addition to the warrant, Rose has been charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest/detention, taking weapon from an officer, escape resulting in injury, failure to identify – fugitive, and possession of heroin, according to the APPD.

Officers suffered only minor injuries during the altercations with Rose, police said.

You can watch footage of the two incidents between Rose and the officers in the video below. The jail footage starts at around the 3 minute mark.
