VIDEO: Drug-Fueled Fugitive Runs Down Police Before 65-Mile Chase

Thomas Chadwick had recently been released from prison, and was already wanted for violating his probation.

Waukesha, WI – A drug-fueled convicted felon ran over a Waukesha police officer and slammed his vehicle into a second officer before he led police on a 65-mile chase through 10 cities (video below).

The incident began at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 11, when Waukesha Police Department (WPD) officers received a tip that a wanted suspect had gone to a Kohl’s store on Moreland Boulevard to steal clothes, the Waukesha Patch reported.

The suspect, 35-year-old Thomas Chadwick, had recently gotten out of prison after an identity theft conviction, and already had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to check in with his probation officer, according to WISN.

WPD Officer Benjamin Kujawa and Officer Patrick Sanford made contact with Chadwick and his 42-year-old ex-girlfriend, Audrey Kalman, as they were sitting in a vehicle outside of the store, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

But when the officers asked the convicted felon to step out of the vehicle, he shoved Kalman out of the driver’s seat and began fighting with police as they tried to pull him out of the open driver’s side door, the Waukesha Patch reported.

Dashcam footage showed the officers as they grabbed onto Chadwick and repeatedly ordered him to get out of the vehicle.

The fugitive slammed the SUV into reverse, then stomped on the accelerator.

The vehicle ran over officer Sanford’s leg and arm, and knocked Officer Kujawa to the ground, spraining his knee, TMJ reported.

Chadwick initially managed to escape, but was spotted in Milwaukee in a different vehicle a short while later, according to WITI.

Officers pursued the suspect through the communities of West Milwaukee, Hales Corners, Greenfield, Greendale, Oak Creek, South Milwaukee, St. Francis, and Cudahy before he crashed the vehicle in West Allis, WISN reported.

They also deployed spike strips to disable the fleeing vehicle during the 65-mile chase, according to the Waukesha Patch.

Chadwick was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, stealing a car, and two counts of recklessly endangering safety, WISN reported.

His bail has been set at $30,000.

“The defendant admitted he made extreme attempts to flee law enforcement because he knew he had a warrant for his arrest,” Waukesha County Assistant District Attorney Peter Tempelis told the news outlet.

Chadwick also allegedly admitted that “he was high on crack cocaine when he engaged in this behavior,” Tempelis noted.

Kalman was charged with misdemeanor obstructing for lying to police about Chadwick’s identity, TMJ reported.

The injured WPD officers were treated at the scene before one of the officers was transported to a local hospital, according to the Waukesha Patch.

He has since been released to recover at home.
