VIDEO: Cop Suspended Without Pay For Saying ‘Trump 2020’ Over Loudspeaker

Brooklyn, NY – A New York Police Department (NYPD) officer has been suspended without pay after he was filmed saying “Trump 2020” over his police SUV’s public address system on Saturday (video below).

The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 24 as the officer sat in his patrol vehicle in the Flatbush neighborhood, The Washington Post reported.

Brandon Hines, who filmed one of the videos, said the altercation began after a passerby made an obscene gesture at the police officer for stopping his car in a crosswalk.

The officer responded by saying “Trump 2020,” Hines told The Washington Post.

So the man started filming and challenged the officer to say it again, the video showed.

“Do it again!” he challenged the officer. “What you can’t say Trump 2020 now, you f–king p—y? Say it again.”

“Trump 2020,” the officer said over the loudspeaker in the video.

“Go f–k yourself, you f–king fascist!” the man screamed at the officer as the video ended.

The video, filmed by Hines from above, showed the exchange didn’t end there.

“Trump 2020. Put it on YouTube. Put it on Facebook. Trump 2020,” the officer continued through his SUV’s public address system.

The man continued to film and swear at the officer.

“Take a picture, take a picture, take a video,” the officer told him over the loudspeaker.

“Put it on Facebook. Put it on YouTube. Have some fun,” the officer suggested. “Tough guy. Tough guy.”

The videos of the exchange quickly went viral and sparked outrage in the community, The Washington Post reported.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea condemned the officer’s behavior on Sunday.

“One hundred percent unacceptable,” Commissioner Shea tweeted. “Period. Law Enforcement must remain apolitical, it is essential in our role to serve ALL New Yorkers regardless of any political beliefs. It is essential for New Yorkers to trust their Police. Updates to follow after initial investigation.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio quickly added his condemnation of NYPD promoting personal political agendas on the job, The Washington Post reported.

“Let me be clear: ANY NYPD Officer pushing ANY political agenda while on duty will face consequences,” de Blasio tweeted. “We will act fast here, and this will not be tolerated.”

NYPD announced that the officer had been identified and suspended without pay later the same day, WPIX reported.

But sources told The Police Tribune that the police department may have trouble enforcing discipline against this officer because of its track record in the past with ignoring political statements made by some members of the department.

“There was no penalty for the lieutenant who was making the black power salute in uniform,” the NYPD official explained. “The raised fist has ties to black supremacy which would make it a racist symbol, and certainly a political statement at the very least.”

“So in that case, you had a supervisor who is in uniform saluting the BLM protesters with a black power salute and there were ZERO repercussions as far as I’ve seen,” he told The Police Tribune.

The official said he doesn’t have an issue with the department coming down on the officer in the video from last weekend but said NYPD has to enforce the rules fairly and equitably.

“Of course this cop was a jacka– to say this on the PA and then encourage the video to be posted. But discipline has to be across the board, which it is not,” the police official said.

NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) President Ed Mullins accused the police department of using a double standard and showing a political bias, WPIX reported.

“The NYPD has a history of officers making political or outside the norm social statements either on video or other social media and ignoring it completely,” Mullins said. “The act of suspending this officer is unnecessary, way over the top, and could have been addressed with an instruction of department policy. It wasn’t too long ago the Chief of Department took a knee in full uniform with protesters, and no disciplinary action was issued.”

“I guess we are left to wonder — if the officer supported Joe Biden would he have been suspended?” the union boss asked.
