HollyMatkinNew York, NY – Staten Island native Pete Davidson bashed the borough’s emergency responders and residents on Saturday, during the Weekend Update segment of “Saturday Night Live.” (Video below)
Davidson sat down with fellow SNL comedian Colin Jost, who is also a Staten Island native, and the two discussed Davidson’s thoughts about going home for Thanksgiving.
“I feel like my hometown doesn’t really like me,” Davidson complained.
When Jost commented that he found everyone in the borough to be “so nice,” Davidson pointed out that Jost only feels that way because everyone likes him – even the local media.
“Why do you think they don’t like you, Pete?” Jost asked.
“I have no idea!” Davidson said, “I mean, if I had to guess, it’s maybe something I said in an interview once that I wished when Hurricane Sandy hit Staten Island, it had finished the job.”
“Well, I can see how what you said might make you more unpopular,” Jost admitted.
“It was just a joke,” Davidson replied. “A serious joke … I’d be just as happy if there was no hurricane and Staten Island just fell into the sea.”
He then directed his barbs at the borough’s residents and first responders.
“I know Staten Island isn’t all heroin and racist cops, you know,” Davidson said. “It also has meth and racist firefighters.”
When Jost commented that he had a different perspective on Staten Island, Davidson pointed at Jost’s popularity as the difference between the two.
“You represent what they could be … a kid who got out, he went to Harvard,” Davidson said. “The reason Staten Island hates me is because I represent what they are – a mentally-ill community college dropout, who got a Game of Thrones tattoo before watching the show.”
