Panama City, FL – Bay County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who tried to run down a store clerk with his truck on Wednesday night (video below).
The incident occurred at a gas station on Cherry Street in Callaway after a customer had a disagreement with a store clerk, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported.
“The employee told responding deputies that the customer, a man driving a truck, had come into the convenience store to pay for gas and was agitated, complaining about his relationship with his wife,” the Bay County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “The man grew even more agitated when he paid the clerk but did not tell her what type of fuel he wanted. He then tried to put diesel in his truck and was upset when the pump was not turned on.”
The clerk told deputies she reset the pump and turned on the diesel fuel but the man – later identified as 34-year-old Brandon Bingaman – still seemed to be having problems, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported.
Bingaman went back into the store and demanded his money back, according to the clerk.
She told police he behaved in an aggressive manner towards her, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported.
A few minutes later, surveillance video from the gas station parking lot showed that Bingaman tried to run down the clerk in front of the convenience store.
“The employee stated the man got into his vehicle to leave, still cursing her as he drove away,” the sheriff’s department press release said. “The employee was outside the store, near the front, and observed the man leave the parking lot in his vehicle and then return, driving straight at her.”
In the video, the clerk appeared to yell and wag her finger at the driver of the pickup truck, and then she stood there watching.
A woman who was showing the video could be heard explaining in the background that the clerks weren’t supposed to be outside after dark.
The truck pulled away, but then he looped back and drove straight at the clerk, who was standing in front of the convenience store, the video showed.
The truck slammed into a bollard protecting the store and stopped, but not before the front end hit the store clerk and knocked her flat on her back.
“Video from the store revealed the man was attempting to hit her with his vehicle but the parking pole stopped him. The employee fell to the ground. The man backed up and drove away westbound on Cherry Street,” according to the sheriff’s department.
Investigators said the identifying marks on the truck, including a business sign, led them directly to Bingaman, WMBB reported.
Bay County sheriff’s deputies arrested Bingaman and charged him with aggravated assault, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported.
