Castro Valley, CA – Police have arrested a female Amazon driver for an attack on a 67-year-old woman on her delivery route on Thursday that was captured by security cameras (video below).
The incident occurred on June 3 when 21-year-old Amazon delivery driver Itzel Ramirez was making a stop at the Vista Creek Apartments in the 22,200-block of Center Street in Castro Valley, KPIX reported.
The security video showed Ramirez in her Amazon uniform having a verbal confrontation with a woman in front of the apartment building.
In the video, which doesn’t have sound, a woman in a blue and white shirt gestured dramatically at Ramirez and appeared to argue with the delivery driver.
Then the woman turned away from the Amazon driver to go back inside, the video showed.
That’s when the driver went after her.
The security video showed the Amazon driver punched the older woman more than 10 times, and also used her keychain to strike her.
Security cameras inside the apartment building showed the 67-year-old woman trapped up against a glass window as the delivery driver attacked her.
Police said the Amazon driver told police that she hit the older woman in self-defense, KPIX reported.
She told authorities that the woman she attacked had called her a “b—ch.”
Ramirez was arrested on Friday, one day after the attack, KPIX reported.
Court records showed she was booked into the Santa Rita Jail on June 4 on suspicion of felony battery causing serious bodily injury and felony elder abuse.
Her bail was set at $100,000, according to KPIX.
Amazon moved quickly to condemn the attack.
“This does not reflect the high standards that we have for individuals who deliver our packages. We take these matters seriously, and this individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages,” Amazon said in a statement after the incident.
