VIDEO: 5-Year-Old Boy Attacks Armed Home Invaders To Defend Family

South Bend, IN – South Bend police have released video of a five-year-old boy who tried to tackle one of four gunmen who burst into his family’s home in a Westside neighborhood at the end of September (video below).

The home invasion occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 30 in the 500-block of South Grant in South Bend, ABC News reported.

The home security video showed an adult woman sitting on the living room floor ironing when four men in hooded sweatshirts suddenly burst into the house.

South Bend police said a child answered the door and the four men – at least three of whom were armed with guns – forced their way inside, ABC News reported.

In the video, two of the men rushed into the living room and pointed weapons at the woman while two small children cowered in the lower right corner of the screen.

At the same time, the other two home invaders are seen in the video marching a teen or adult male into another room at gunpoint.

One of the children in the living room – a five-year-old boy – took action and shoved the gunman in the red hoodie and began pummeling him.

A gunman in a black hoodie returned to the room and backed the child off of the other armed man while the man in the red hoodie forced the woman into the other room at gunpoint, the video showed.

The video showed that the little boy was not to be deterred when it came to defending his home and his family.

He picked up a toy truck and hurled it at one of the home invaders.

The man appeared to brush the child off and walked away, but the little boy tore after him and jumped on him, the video showed.

The little boy was still going hand-to-hand with the armed men as the video ended.

Police said the gunmen fired shots before they left the home but nobody was injured, ABC News reported.

South Bend police officials released the security footage of the incident and asked for the public’s help in identifying the armed men, ABC News reported.

“This video is extremely disturbing,” the South Bend Police Department wrote in the post when they shared the video on Oct. 9. “You can see a little boy hitting one of the armed suspects as he tries to defend his home. It is our job now to defend him.”
