Holly MatkinSan Antonio, TX – A longtime U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot by his wife inside a hotel room early Tuesday morning, according to police.
San Antonio police received a report of a shooting in progress at a La Quinta hotel on North Loop 1604 at approximately 8:22 a.m., the San Antonio Express-News reported.
The arrived to find 47-year-old U.S. Border Patrol Agent Jon Travis Marburger suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The officers administered emergency aid before Agent Marburger was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition.
He was pronounced dead a short while later, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Agent Marburger’s 47-year-old wife, Sherry Marburger, has been arrested and charged with murder.
According to jail intake documents, Sherry allegedly “knowingly and intentionally murdered her husband,” KSAT reported.
She called 911 and said that she shot her husband in the chest three times, according to a 911 recording obtained by KENS.
Sherry said that she shot Agent Marburger because he was allegedly “cheating” on her, WOAI reported.
She also told the dispatcher that the gun was on the bed, and that her husband was still breathing.
Additional details regarding the events that led up to the fatal shooting have not been released, and the incident remains under investigation, KENS reported.
Sherry’s bond was set at $150,000.
Her pre-hearing has been scheduled for May 13, according to Bexar County court records.
Agent Marburger served the U.S. Border Patrol for 21 years, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
He was assigned to the Del Rio station in South Central Texas at the time of his murder, the Washington Examiner reported.
