Two Women Murdered While Protecting Rape Victim From Hitmen Hired By Accused Rapist

Montegut, LA – Two men hired by a convicted sex offender to kill his alleged rape victim so she wouldn’t be able to testify against him ended up murdering the convicted felon’s sister and a second woman instead of their intended target, according to police.

The two women they shot to death were trying to protect the rape victim when they were killed, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Timothy Soignet said during a press conference on Feb. 1, according to WWL.

The attack occurred at a home on Montegut Street at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Jan. 13, KNOE reported.

According to Sheriff Soignet, convicted sex offender Breaux Cormier had hired 22-year-old Dalvin Wilson and 25-year-old Andrew Eskine to murder his niece, who he has been accused of raping.

Breaux Cormier was in jail when he set up the murder-for-hire scheme, WWL reported.

Sheriff Soignet said Breaux Cormier’s sister, 34-year-old Brittany Cormier, and the rape victim’s neighbor, 37-year-old Hope Nettleton, were at the victim’s home when Wilson and Eskine showed up, WWL reported.

The hired killers first encountered Brittany Cormier, who claimed she was the rape victim in an effort to protect the actual victim, according to the sheriff.

“The shooter asked for the rape victim by name, and Brittany Cormier tells the shooter she’s the rape victim, accepting her fate to save the life of the victim,” he said, according to WWL.

The suspects fatally shot Brittany Cormier before Nettleton tried to fight them off, Sheriff Soignet said.

The gunmen fatally shot her as well, according to the sheriff.

“There were good people that ended up dying,” Sheriff Soignet said of the brutal attacks. “It really hit that community hard.”

Investigators said the suspects allegedly tried to kill the alleged rape victim on a prior occasion and failed, WWL reported.

Breaux Cormier, Wilson, and Eskine were all arrested on two counts of first-degree murder in the wake of the Jan. 13 double-homicide, KNOE reported.

Their bonds have been set at $2 million apiece.

Eskine and Wilson have both allegedly confessed to their roles in the women’s murders, Sheriff Soignet said.

“The death penalty is definitely on the table,” District Attorney Joe Waitz told WWL.
