SandyMaloneSeminole, OK – Two police officers were tased by a suspect while responding to a call for a possible home invasion on Thursday.
Responding officers found Dakota Jones in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the residence, and attempted to take him into custody.
The Seminole Police Department said on their Facebook page that when police tried to arrest Jones, he “resisted and the fight was on.”
Officers tased the 30-year-old suspect twice, but he continued fighting and got control of Lieutenant Michael Burnett’s Taser.
Jones got Lt. Burnett in the knee with the Taser, briefly incapacitating him.
“It’s very painful, seems like it lasts forever, like you’re not breathing but, when it’s over, it’s over,” Lt. Burnett said. “This is a reminder, to me, that any point at any time that these type of things can happen.”
Officer Adam Good was also tased during the struggle, KFOR reported.
When Lt. Burnett was recovered enough from the shock to draw his gun, Jones finally dropped the Taser, and police were able to arrest him.
Neither Lt. Burnett nor Officer Good sustained serious injuries as a result of being tased.
Jones was already well-known to Seminole law enforcement before the tasing incident.
“I call him one of our frequent fliers,” Seminole Police Chief David Hanson told KFOR.
“We’ve dealt with him on weapons charges before. Assaults before. Stalking-type calls. He’s somebody we get a lot of calls about,” Chief Hanson said of the man who attacked two of his police officers.
Following his arrest, Jones was transported to the Seminole Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Upon release, police took Jones to the Seminole County Jail.
Family members at Jones’ last known address refused to comment on the incident, or confirm their relationship to the suspect.
Jones was charged with four counts in relation to the incident, including assault and battery of a police officer.
Bond was set at $100,000, and Jones remained in custody.
A status conference is scheduled for Jan. 18.
