Two Indiana Police Officers Shot By Gunman

Two police officers were shot in Gary, Indiana on Monday.

Gary, IN – Two police officers were shot by a barricaded suspect on Monday.

The incident started around 1:30 p.m. when Merrillville police officers were conducting an investigation in the 2500 block of Waverly Drive, according to WGN.

Officers made contact with the suspect and he retreated into a residence.

The officers then called in the Gary Police Department SWAT team, according to WMAQ.

The SWAT steam attempted negotiations for two hours before making the decision to enter the home.

Upon entry, one officer was shot in the chest and arm, and a second officer was shot in the stomach and chin.

The suspect was subsequently destroyed in the gunfight.

Both officers were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition.
