Twitter Account With ‘KKK’ Makes Terrorist Threat To Attack School

Anne Arundel County, MD –  A student at Arundel High School sent out a threatening message via Twitter involving the KKK, and while investigators were expecting a hate crime, they instead located a black teenage girl behind the tweet.

In a statement released by Anne Arundel County Police Chief Timothy J. Altomare, his agency was notified by Anne Arundel High School administrators on Monday that a threatening tweet had been sent from a suspicious Twitter account.  The Twitter account is named @KoolkidsKlanKkk and the tweet read: “We’re planning to attack tomorrow.” Around the same time @kkkforreal tweeted at the school that they were blowing the school up and “black [N-Word] better run.” It’s not clear if the second account was also created by same person.

Anne Arundel Police detectives were immediately notified and began an investigation.  The investigation involved working with Twitter and other communication servers.  The person responsible for creating that specific Twitter account was identified as a 14-year-old black student.  She was located and was interviewed by detectives with her parents present.

During the interview, the black juvenile female admitted to creating the Twitter account and sending the threatening tweet.  She has been charged on a juvenile citation with Disruption of School Activities and was released to the custody of her parents.

According to CBS Baltimore, the Twitter account used similar language to a recent petition that had been passed around the high school by the “Kool Kids Klan” asking students to join a white supremacist movement.  The high school also disciplined the two students who were involved but could not release their names because they are juveniles.

Parents were upset after a letter was sent out by the high school offering a brief explanation of what had happened, and hundreds showed up to a school meeting Wednesday night with questions.  In a statement, Anne Arundel County Public Schools Superintendent thanked law enforcement, the state’s attorney, and all those involved in the investigation.  No motive is known for the tweet.

Thankfully the suspect was caught before causing more alarm. The question remains though about why these incidents continue to happen.
