Trooper Dating Gov. Cuomo’s Daughter Transferred To Post Near Canada After Dad Finds Out

Albany, NY – The New York state trooper who has been dating Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 25-year-old daughter has been transferred from the governor’s security detail to a post near the Canadian border, 160 miles away from the capital.

“He was transferred to keep him away from the daughter because the governor didn’t like whatever they were doing,” a source with knowledge of the situation told the New York Post.

Cara Kennedy-Cuomo met New York State Trooper Dane Pfeiffer, 35, while he was serving on her father’s security detail, according to the paper.

Kennedy-Cuomo moved to the Executive in Mansion in Albany after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and she and Trooper Pfeiffer began dating approximately seven months ago, the New York Post reported.

Cuomo found out about their relationship a short while later.

“The protocol of dignitary protection” mandated that the trooper be removed from the protective detail due to his relationship with Kennedy-Cuomo, according to a law enforcement source who has knowledge of the situation.

In 2015, Trooper Pfeiffer began his New York State Police (NYSP) career serving with Troop B in Plattsburgh, which is just 25 miles south of the U.S. border with Canada and an estimated 160 miles from Albany, the New York Post reported.

He put in a “voluntary transfer” request on May 24, asking to be returned to the Plattsburgh post.

Trooper Pfeiffer was not found to have done anything wrong by having a relationship with Kennedy-Cuomo, and his transfer was not officially recorded as a disciplinary action, sources told the New York Post.

The transfer placed Trooper Pfeiffer a significant distance from his Saratoga Springs home, which he purchased in 2018, and is considered by law enforcement officers to be an informal punishment known as “highway therapy,” sources told the paper.

The commute is over 250 miles round-trip.

One source explained that the governor “is limited in how much he can screw with him, so highway therapy is one of his few options,” the New York Post reported.

The couple is still together, despite the governor’s disapproval of the situation, according to the source.

NYSP spokesperson William “Beau” Duffy said that Trooper Pfeiffer made the request of his own accord in order “to gain more field experience to further his career advancement track to the rank of sergeant,” the New York Post reported.

“Such requests are routine, and it was granted,” Duffy said.

Trooper Pfeiffer and Cuomo’s spokesperson declined to comment on the situation, according to the New York Post.
