Transgender Sex Offender Accused Of Exposing Genitals To Girls At Spa Charged With Indecent Exposure

Los Angeles, CA – A transgender serial sex offender accused of exposing her penis to a group of women at a Los Angeles spa has been criminally charged in connection with the incident, even though she and her supporters claim she was a victim of transphobic bias.

According to a source with knowledge about the case who is not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation, four women and an underage girl spoke to Los Angeles police about the incident, the New York Post reported.

They said they witnessed the suspect, 52-year-old Darren Agee Merager, exposing her partially-erect penis in the women’s area of the Wi Spa in June, according to the source.

Merager, who was already facing six other felony counts of indecent exposure due allegedly exposing herself to women and children in a West Hollywood Park swimming pool locker room in December of 2018, was charged with five counts of indecent exposure on Aug. 30 in connection with the Wi Spa allegations, the New York Post reported.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LACSD) sent an alert to other southern California law enforcement agencies in late 2018, warning them about Merager and searching for similar incidents.

Although she was transient at the time, she was released on $150,000 bail in early 2019.

“Merager claims to identify as female so he can access women’s locker rooms and showers,” the LACSD flier read, according to the New York Post.

Merager was convicted of two other indecent exposure offenses in 2002 and 2003, and for failing to register as a sex offender in 2008.

She also has prior convictions for a plethora of other felony offenses, including escape and burglary, the New York Post reported.

The convicted sex offender told the New York Post she is a victim of transphobia.

“Everything about the Wi Spa was a bunch of garbage and lies,” she told the paper.

Merager said she is legally female in California, so she was sitting in a jacuzzi in the women’s area of the spa when another female patron allegedly accosted her.

She denied having been around any children or having had an erection at the time of the incident, the New York Post reported.

“She never saw me naked,” Merager argued. “I was underwater with water all the way up to my chest.”

She claimed the open cases against her are evidence of the “pattern of abuse” she’s endured at the hands of transphobic citizens and government officials, the New York Post reported.

“You allow [trans women] to go in there [women’s spaces] and then people simply claim indecent exposure and you’re arrested,” Merager lamented. “If you go into an area where you’re expected to be nude, there has to be an indecent exposure exemption.”

The convicted felon said she is also considering suing law enforcement and the Wi Spa for discrimination, the New York Post reported.

Merager had not been arrested as of Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Conservative activists, including Proud Boys, and antifa clashed outside the Wi Spa after news of the incident went viral in June.

The protests turned violent at times, and police ended up arresting about 40 people during the mayhem, the Los Angeles Times reported.

People on the antifa side alleged police used excessive force and were more focused on arresting them than they were in arresting conservatives, prompting attorneys to threaten more lawsuits, according to the paper.
