Mexia, TX – A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper was shot Friday night, and the suspect is on the run.

At around 8 p.m. Friday night, Trooper Chad Walker stopped to help with a stranded motorist on FM Road 2848 and U.S. Highway 84., according to KBTX.

Before Trooper Walker even stopped his patrol car, a gunman emerged from the disabled vehicle and shot him in the head through his patrol car windshield.

Trooper Walker was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to KXAN.

His alleged shooter is DeArthur Pinson, Jr., a 36-year-old male, 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a hoodie and shorts with a stripe down the side.

He may be wearing glasses, according to DPS.

A Blue Alert was issued for Pinson Saturday morning.

Blue Alerts are issued when somebody is on the run after seriously wounding or killing a law enforcement officer.

Pinson should be considered armed and dangerous, and anybody who sees him is asked to call 911.
