Riverview, FL – A Florida teacher has been charged with molestation and sexual battery after allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a student during school functions, on campus, and during regular school hours.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the teacher, 22-year-old Paige Morley, taught at Winthrop College Preparatory Academy in Riverview, WPEC reported.
Deputies said the investigation into the allegations determined that Morley began her “inappropriate relationship” with her victim by coordinating to meet with the male student after school hours through school-sanctioned events.
Authorities said that the teacher’s romantic relationship with the male student – who charges indicated was between the ages of 12 and 15 – started in February of this year.
Deputies said the teacher and her victim would find places to have sex while the special events were taking place elsewhere on campus, WPEC reported.
“During the events, the victim and the defendant would perform sexual acts,” according to the sheriff’s department’s press release.
Some of the illegal sexual encounters took place on campus during normal school hours, WPEC reported.
“It is unfathomable, how a trusted member of our community could abuse the power and position they were given,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a press release put out by the sheriff’s department.
“This woman was entrusted to educate students and be a positive influence, instead she is a disgrace,” Sheriff Chronister continued. “As a father, I empathize with parents who are learning of this, and I appreciate the school’s cooperation during this investigation.”
Morley was arrested and booked on multiple charges that included lewd lascivious battery, lewd or lascivious molestation, lewd or lascivious exhibition, authority figure soliciting or engaging in romantic relationship with a student, and sexual battery, WPEC reported.
Authorities are looking for more victims and have asked that anyone who has information for their investigation into Morley contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813-247-8200.
