Jacksonville, FL – A Florida teacher was arrested after fighting with another woman at their children’s youth baseball practice over the wearing of “short shorts.”
Terry Coursey is a teacher at Clay High School who was arrested Feb. 23 and was suspended from her teaching job after the arrest.
Coursey, 37, pleaded not guilty to first-degree misdemeanor charge of simple battery, according to WJXT-TV.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. at a youth baseball practice held at Orange Park Athletic Association baseball fields.
According to the police, another mother was watching the practice when Coursey criticized her for wearing “short shorts.”
The victim said Coursey repeatedly punched her in the face and tackled her.
The victim had visible bruises on her forearms, a cut on her right wrist and abrasions on her shoulder, elbow and chest, according to the deputy’s report.
Attempts to reach Coursey to her her side of the story have not been successful.
Internet commenters expressed confusion about why anybody would care about short shorts in the Florida heat.
“Exactly how short?” asked Jim Ermin on the WJXT Facebook page. “When is the next game so I can form my own opinion?”
“Everyone fussing about a woman wearing short-shorts around kids at a baseball game, yet the same woman wearing even less (bikini) at the beach around kids is okay. What is the matter with you people,” posted Gordon MacWilliam on the WJXT homepage.
