Houston, TX – A Harris County deputy constable was run over by a suspect in a stolen vehicle during a pursuit on Wednesday night, according to investigators.
The incident began when Harris County Precinct 1 deputy constables received a report of a domestic disturbance at a church located on Witcher Lane, KTRK reported.
The 39-year-old suspect, whose name wasn’t released, allegedly got into a fight with a family member and rammed the stolen vehicle he was driving into several other cars in the church parking lot, investigators said.
The suspect then sped off.
A deputy constable spotted the vehicle traveling the wrong way down Hardy Toll Road a short while later and tried to pull the driver over, but he refused, Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen told KTRK.
The deputy constable pursued the fleeing suspect for about 20 minutes until the stolen car crashed into a house near the intersection of Hardy Toll Road and Mitchell at approximately 10:30 p.m., Constable Rosen said.
The constable said the suspect ran over the top of a deputy constable during the melee.
The deputy constable was also dragged by the vehicle for approximately 20 feet, leaving him severely injured, KPRC reported.
One Houston police officer and four deputy constables opened fire on the attacker, fatally wounding him, according to KTRK.
“The deputy constable got out of his vehicle to approach the suspect,” Houston Police Department (HPD) Executive Chief Matt Slinkard explained. “The suspect then, using his vehicle as a weapon, ran over the deputy constable, unfortunately. That deputy constable was run over and was life flighted for injuries from this location.”
HPD commanders, detectives and PIO are en route to an officer involved shooting in the 1200 blk of Mitchell Rd in north Houston.

The deputy constable, a 34-year-old, for-year veteran of the department, has been listed in serious-but-stable condition, KTRK reported.
He suffered injuries to his spleen and pelvis, according to officials.
“Let’s pray for him this evening,” Constable Rosen said. “We have his wife at the hospital. I’m just so thankful for all of the law enforcement support that we’ve had this evening for this deputy. Keep him in your prayers. Hopefully he’ll pull through and be okay.”
The injured deputy constable is a father of three, KHOU reported.
A Harris County Precinct 1 constable sergeant was also hit in the left leg by a ricocheted bullet, KPRC reported.
The wounded constable sergeant was treated at the scene for his injuries.
