San Antonio, TX – A uniformed Crystal City police officer working a security detail at an apartment complex was held at gunpoint while trying to break up a fight in the complex’s parking lot early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at an apartment building located in the 100-Block of Emerald Ash at approximately 4:30 a.m. on August 13, KSAT reported.
Investigators said an unnamed 48-year-old Crystal City police officer was in uniform working a security job at the complex when a fight erupted at a party being held at one of the apartments.
According to witnesses, the fight spilled out of the residence and into the complex’s parking lot, KSAT reported.
The officer was attempting to break the group up when another man carrying a sawed-off shotgun barged in and pointed the weapon at the officer and those involved in the brawl, according to police.
The armed suspect allegedly ordered the officer not to move as he held him at gunpoint, KSAT reported.
The tense situation ended a moment later as officers from the San Antonio Police Department’s (SAPD) South District arrived at the scene.
Police said the gunman and a woman ran back into the apartment complex, but it was unclear where they were hiding, KSAT reported.
They were last seen running into Building 4, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Investigators said no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
SAPD homicide detectives obtained statements from the Crystal City officer and witnesses at police headquarters, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
It is unclear if investigators have identified or apprehended the suspect.
It is also unknown if any charges will be filed against him.
