El Paso, TX – A huge group of illegal immigrants carrying a massive Venezuelan flag stormed the U.S.-Mexico border on Monday, assaulting U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents as they forced their way into the country.
A portion of the Oct. 31 invasion was captured on video by the El Paso Times.
The footage showed dozens of USBP agents and other law enforcement personnel lining up near the Loop 375 overpass on the north banks of the Rio Grande as the crowd of illegal immigrants pushed through the water and entered the U.S. illegally.
One member of the group was waving a massive Venezuelan flag, the footage showed.
At one point during the tense confrontation with the USBP agents, the man carrying the flag used the flagpole as a weapon to jab at the agents before he retreated back across the river into Mexico, the El Paso Times reported.
Another member of the crowd was seen carrying a Honduran flag, according to the paper.
USBP Spokesperson Landon Hutchens said the illegal immigrants attacked the agents, resulting in them using a “less-lethal force pepperball launching system” to push them back into Mexico, the El Paso Times reported.
“One of the protesters assaulted an agent with a flag pole,” Hutchens told the paper. “A second subject threw a rock causing injury to an agent at which time agents responded by initiating crowd control measures.”
The USBP said the crowd ultimately “dispersed and returned to Mexico” after the less-lethal weapons were deployed against them, according to FOX News.
The nature and severity of the agents’ injuries were not immediately released.
The department’s Office of Professional Responsibility will review the use-of-force incident.

Earlier in the day, a group of migrants demanding entry into the United States staged a protest in Juarez, the El Paso Times reported.
They marched beneath an enormous modified U.S. flag emblazoned with the words, “We the migrants built America,” according to the paper.
Officials said another group of 300 illegal immigrants crossed the U.S. border into Normandy, Texas on Tuesday morning, FOX News reported.
That crowd was mostly comprised of single adults.
USBP agents have encountered more than 50 groups of over 100 illegal immigrants apiece in the Del Rio Sector alone since early October, according to FOX News.
The number of encounters with illegal immigrants this fiscal year topped 2.3 million, shattering previous record highs.
