Shoppers Tackle Attempted Rapist Inside Florida Walmart

Miami, FL – Other shoppers rushed to intervene after a man in a Walmart store in north Miami-Dade County tried to rape a female customer on Sunday evening (video below).

Police said the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on March 20 at the Walmart located in the 3200-block of NW 79th Street, WPLG reported.

The victim told investigators that she was shopping when a man came up behind her and lifted up her dress and touched her rear end.

The police report said that he then pushed the woman to the ground and tore off her underwear, WPLG reported.

Witnesses said the woman was screaming as 28-year-old Brendan Jarmal Harvey tried to sexually assault her.

Other Walmart shoppers heard the commotion and rushed to help the woman, WPLG reported.

Investigators said one of the good Samaritans jumped on the would-be rapist’s back and tried to pull him off the woman.

Then another man jumped in to assist and together they were able to pull Harvey off his intended victim, WPLG reported.

Miami-Dade police said the other shoppers helped the victim “resist further attacks.”

Harvey attempted to flee the scene afterwards but cell phone videos from inside the store showed several good Samaritans chased him, stopped him, and held him down until police arrived, WPLG reported.

He was arrested and charged with attempted rape.

In court on Monday, the judge was visibly unsettled by the details of the incident, WPLG reported.

The judge noted that Harvey was already on probation when he attempted to sexually assault the other Walmart shopper.

Harvey’s bond was set at $50,000 and he was ordered to stay away from his victim and the Walmart where he committed his crime, WPLG reported.

The Miami-Dade Police Department said investigators are concerned that there may be other victims given how brazen Harvey’s attack on the woman was.

Police have urged anyone who has been victimized by Harvey to come forward for assistance, WPLG reported.
