AndrewBlakeHamilton, Ohio – An Ohio Sheriff has offered free concealed carry classes to teachers who are from his county as well as offering free training on school shootings.
Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones tweeted Feb. 18 the offer and said a limited number of openings would be available.
Since his post, the sheriff’s office stated they received 50 emails in 20 minutes.
The sheriff also released a video (below) where he said school districts need to have armed staff in schools. Sheriff Jones suggested retired police officers, military veterans, or armed teachers who would be trained as possibilities.
“We need to put armed personnel in schools. We need to look at metal detectors. This is not going to stop or go away,” Sheriff Jones said. “But we need to be prepared and we don’t need to have our heads in the sand.”
Sheriff Jones also said schools need to rethink fire drills. The sheriff said fire danger isn’t as much a concern as it was years ago.
Florida shooter Nikolas Cruz pulled the fire alarm in the high school which sent people in the hallways where they were easier to shoot. The sheriff said copycat killers may try the same thing.
