Special Agent Kerry O’Grady Puts Politics Ahead Of Job
A Facebook post made by Kerry O’Grady surfaced in which she said she would rather face jail time than take a bullet for our incoming President. She went on to say that the ‘Hatch Act,’ which bars federal employees from engaging in any political advocacy, could ‘be damned.’ O’Grady said that despite her position, she ‘was with her.’ Upon release of the article by the Washington Examiner, demands quickly poured in that O’Grady be terminated.
Special Agent Kerry O’Grady is in charge of the Secret Service’s Denver District. She is responsible for overseeing and coordinating with Washington-based advance teams for all presidential candidates and presidential visits to the area. This would include all visits from the President, Vice-President or Trump administration officials.
According to the Secret Service employees are among those federal employees subject to enhanced Hatch Act restrictions, including these two rules about social media while representing the agency or on agency time:
- May not post a comment to a blog or a social media site that advocates for or against a partisan political party, candidate for partisan political office, or partisan political group.
- May not use any email account or social media to distribute, send or forward content that advocates for or against a partisan political party, candidate for partisan political office, or partisan political group.
Special Agent O’Grady clearly violated the federal law that she took an oath to abide by. In doing so, she has forsaken the bipartisan oath that she swore to maintain as a public servant of the United States. Her post in October not only broke the law but acknowledged that she knew she was breaking it and she no longer cared.
The political views did not stop coming after President Trump took office. According to the Washington Examiner article, her multiple Facebook photos changed on Inauguration Day. Starting at 11:23 PM her profile photo changed to an artist rendering of Princess Leia with the words, “A woman’s place is in the resistance.” “The resistance” is another term used by Trump’s opposition to refer to themselves. Her cover photo then changed at 12:25 p.m. on Inauguration Day to the Women’s March logo.
When one comment woman commented, saying “none of these women represent me #justsayin,” O’Grady replied that “all of these women represent me! Proud to say it! #nasty.” Anti-Trump activists have taken the label of “nasty woman” to show their opposition to President Trump, who referred to Hillary Clinton as “such a nasty woman” in the last days of an October presidential debate.
More posts made by Kerry O’Grady include one in late November where she shared Facebook remarks from the liberal news outlet Vox, which carried a photo of Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and a story with the headline, “Donald Trump nominates Jeff Sessions to serve as attorney general.”The Vox Facebook post stated, “Just a few years ago, this would have been unimaginable.” O’Grady added her own comment, saying, “We are moving our civil rights into a period of bigotry, misogyny and racism that this country has not tolerated for decades. Dark ages. I am horrified and dismayed beyond words.”According to sources, The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General which is in charge of investigation complaints of misbehavior received a complaint about O’Grady’s Facebook post on October 11th. Aside from the Hatch Act, it is not completely clear if the Secret Service explicitly bans agents from engaging in political speech on social media but agents have been long warned about the use of it.Special Agent Kerry O’Grady released the following statement following the release of her Facebook posts by the Washington Examiner: “I serve this country with pride and I proudly diligently and fiercely protect and support the institutions and pillars of our republic established by the very same document that allows my free expression. I do so with every fiber of my being for the very reason that those institutions are in place to guarantee my right and the rights of all our citizens to voice and express our opinions and beliefs even when and especially when those values may be contrary to those of the party in power. My devotion to mission and country is only strengthened by the fact that the founders recognize the value of dissent and the freedom to assemble and voice those opposing convictions. They enshrine those rights for future generations so we avoid the path of authoritarian regimes that shackle their people with fear.”When asked whether her personal opposition to President Trump would affect the ability to do her job, she replied, “I hope you understand that’s an emphatic no and I need to make sure that’s resoundingly clear and just reinforces that this job needs to done well.”Many are now calling for the immediate termination of Special Agent Kerry O’Grady, for a clear violation of federal law. Others are speculating that O’Grady is trying to provoke the agency into firing her so she can file a lawsuit.
