West Hollywood, CA – Rapper Rich the Kid and his entourage were shot at as they left a Los Angeles recording studio on Tuesday, just hours after he posted a picture of himself holding a stack of cash on Instagram.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office released a statement that said the incident occurred at about 3:13 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the 7200-block of Santa Monica Boulevard, according to TMZ.
Deputies responded to a 911 call from the scene and when they arrived, they found three black men who had just been the victims of an assault, the press release from the sheriff’s department said.
The victims told police that three black male suspects had confronted them in the alley behind the recording studio and demanded their money and jewelry.
Then the suspects physically assaulted the victims, according to the press release.
One of the men in Rich the Kid’s entourage was badly pistol-whipped, according to TMZ.
“All the suspects got into a vehicle and drove away, westbound from the location. As the suspects drove away, a shooting occurred by an unknown male suspect. The shooting suspect has not been located or identified,” the press release said.
Witnesses told TMZ that as many as 10 shots were fired as the suspects departed.
Earlier in the day, Rich the Kid posted a picture of himself on Instagram holding a literal stack of money in front of his blue Lamborghini.
Initial reports of the armed robbery said that recording artist Usher was also a victim, but that turned out to be untrue.
Usher was inside the studio working when the incident occurred, according People.
He was recording in his own suite, not with Rich the Kid, and wasn’t affected by the melee outside.
Rich the Kid and his friends’ injuries were minor and nobody was taken to the hospital after the attack, according to the sheriff’s department press release.
This is the second robbery Rich the Kid has endured in less than a year, People reported.
TMZ reported that the rapper was the victim of a violent home invasion at his girlfriend’s place on June 14, 2018.
On that occasion, the home invaders took jewelry and cash, and beat Rich the Kid badly enough to put him in the hospital for three days.
No arrests have yet been made in the first incident, according to People.
