‘Put The Knife Down Please Ma’am’ Bodycam Shows Shooting Of Knife-Wielding Woman

Athens-Clark County Police Officer Lamar Glenn opened fire on Bonny Thomas after she charged at him with a knife.

Athens, GA – Police released bodycam footage of a woman wielding a carving knife who charged at a police officer responding to a 911 call (video below).

The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on Oct. 14 after Athens-Clark County Police Officer Lamar Glenn responded to an unspecified emergency call in the 100-block of Chalfont Drive, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Recently released bodycam video showed a woman identified as Bonny Thomas standing in the front yard of a house holding a knife as the officers rolled up.

“I think she’s flagging me down here,” Officer Glenn told the dispatcher in the video. “She’s got a knife in her hand.”

Bodycam video showed that Officer Glenn got out of his police vehicle and told Thomas to drop the knife multiple times.

“Put the knife down, ma’am. Please,” he ordered her.

“No,” she replied, ignoring his commands, and marched resolutely toward the officer with the knife held in the air in her left hand.

The video showed the officer radioed the dispatcher to send backup and began backing away from Thomas as she continued toward him.

“I have a gun and a knife. I have a gun and a knife,” Thomas chanted as she walked toward Officer Glenn.

“Put it down. Put it down. Put it down,” Officer Glenn told her, getting progressively louder.

Suddenly, Thomas lunged toward the officer with the knife in her outstretched hand, the video showed.

Officer Glenn opened fire and Thomas dropped to the pavement, as her knife bounced and slid about 10 feet away from where she landed.

Thomas was transported to the hospital where she later died, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Officer Glen, a 29-year veteran of his department, was placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard for all officer-involved shootings, while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigates the incident.
