Simpson County, MS – Authorities have announced that the suspect wanted for murdering a Simpson County sheriff’s deputy Friday has been captured.
Joaquin Stevens Blackwell, 22, was captured at around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, according to WLBT.
Blackwell was seen being placed into a patrol car and did not appear to be injured, according to WLBT.
Blackwell was wanted for murdering 77-year-old Simpson County Sheriff’s Deputy James Blair on Friday, according to WAPT.
Deputy Blair was escorting Blackwell out of Region 8 Medical Center after a mental health evaluation when Blackwell fatally shot Deputy Blair and then fled on foot.
A Blue Alert was issued for Blackwell, who eluded authorities for a day before his capture.
