Police Say 8-Year-Old Boy Carjacked Victim At Gunpoint Before Leading Cops On Chase

Montgomery, AL – An eight-year-old boy in Alabama allegedly carjacked a motorist at gunpoint before leading police on a pursuit on Tuesday.

The incident began shortly after 11 a.m. on July 11, when the Montgomery Police Department (MPD) received a report of a robbery on West Fairview Avenue, WSFA reported.

MPD Major Saba Coleman said officers responded to the scene and discovered that a child had allegedly carjacked a victim at gunpoint.

Police spotted the stolen vehicle near Norman Bridge Road and East South Boulevard and attempted to stop it, but the suspect refused to pull over, according to The Birmingham News.

Witness “Snake” Knapp told WSFA he saw the boy driving the stolen car, so he called police to let them know the suspect was a child.

“Whenever I realized it was a little boy, I knew I had to follow them and make sure no one got hit and that he got caught because don’t want him driving all over Montgomery, causing more accidents or hurting himself or hurting other people,” Knapp said.

He noted the boy also picked up two adults on Norman Bridge Road at one point, WSFA reported.

Officers chased the stolen vehicle to the area of South Court Street and West Fairview Avenue, where the youthful offender allegedly crashed into another vehicle.

The collision brought the chase to an end, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Investigators said no injuries were reported as a result of the wreck, WSFA reported.

Maj. Coleman said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was transported to the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility and has been charged with first-degree robbery, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, and attempting to elude, WSFA reported.

It is unclear whether the two adults the Knapp said the suspect picked up were still in the car when the crash occurred.

Police have not released any further details about the ongoing investigation.
