Phoenix, AZ – A Phoenix man was fatally shot early Sunday morning after pulling out an airsoft gun and pointing it at a man armed with a real firearm, according to police.
The incident occurred at a QuikTrip store located near Black Canyon Highway and Camelback Road at approximately 5 a.m. on May 8, KPNX reported.
Phoenix police responded to the scene after receiving a report of a shooting and found 31-year-old Sergio Cruz suffering from a gunshot wound, according to KNXV.
They administered first aid until emergency medical crews arrived, the Arizona Daily Independent reported.
Cruz was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined Cruz had confronted another man regarding a conflict between the other man and someone Cruz knew, the Phoenix Patch reported.
Police said that’s when Cruz pulled out a replica airsoft gun and pointed at the other man, according to KPNX.
The second man responded by drawing his real handgun and shooting Cruz in the chest, according to investigators.
