Washington, D.C. – Actor Peter Fonda’s Wednesday Twitter rant about President Donald Trump’s 12-year-old son led First Lady Melania Trump to alert the Secret Service.
In the since-deleted post, 78-year-old Fonda proposed kidnapping the president’s youngest son and putting him in a cage with sex offenders.
“We should rip Barron Trump from his mother’s arms and put him in a cage with pedophiles and see if mother…will stand up against the giant a – – hole she married…” Fonda sent to his 50,000 followers early Wednesday morning, according to FOX News.
“The tweet is sick and irresponsible,” the first lady’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, told The Hill.
A spokesman for the Secret Service confirmed that the agency was made aware of the message, but declined to comment, CNN reported.
Donald Trump Jr. was quick to jump to his little brother’s defense.
“You’re clearly a sick individual,” Trump Jr. tweeted, adding that Fonda was a “bully and a coward.”
On Thursday, Fonda issued an apology for what he admitted was a “vulgar” post.
“I tweeted something highly inappropriate and vulgar about the president and his family in response to the devastating images I was seeing on television,” Fonda said, according to CNN. “Like many Americans, I am very impassioned and distraught over the situation with children separated from their families at the border, but I went way too far. It was wrong and I should not have done it. I immediately regretted it and sincerely apologize to the family for what I said and any hurt my words have caused.”
Fonda issued his apology shortly after President Trump announced that he would issue an executive order to end family separation at the U.S. border, which would allow the children of illegal immigrants to remain with their incarcerated parents.
However, that order is expected to violate a 1997 consent decree, according to The New York Times.
“We’re looking to keep families together,” the president said on Wednesday. “We’re going to keep families together, but we still have to maintain toughness or our country will be overrun by people, by crime, by all of the things that we don’t stand for, that we don’t want.”

Just 24 hours before his post about the president’s son, Fonda went on another early-morning Twitter tirade – this time against Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, FOX News reported.
“Kristjen Nielsen is a lying g–h that should be put in a cage and poked at by passersby,” the two-time Oscar nominee railed in a tweet. “The g–h should be pilloried in Lafayette Square naked and whipped by passersby while being filmed for posterity.”
Minutes later, he turned his attention to Sanders.
“SS (Sarah Sanders) is a lying g–h too,” Fonda tweeted. “And ‘g–h’ is much worse than c–t. Maybe we should take her children away and deport her to Arkansas, and giving her children to Stephen Goebbels Miller for safe keeping.”
In yet another tweet, Fonda urged those against the border policy to track down federal agents and “surround their homes in protest,” FOX News reported.
“We should find out what school their children go to and surround the schools in protest,” he added. “These agents are doing this cuz they want to do it. They like doing this. F–k.”
“We don’t have to take the agents kids,” Fonda wrote, according to The Washington Times. “We only need to surround their schools and scare the s – – t out of them and worry the f – – k out of the agents from CBE ICE and regular border patrol agents. We need to scare the f – – k out of them! Need to make their children worry now.”
Fonda’s upcoming film, “Boundaries,” is due out on Friday.
Sony Pictures has not responded to requests for comment, according to FOX News.
