Pelosi Directs House To Proceed With Articles Of Impeachment Against Trump

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called for articles of impeachment to be drawn up against President Donald Trump.

Washington, DC – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) directed U.S. House of Representatives committee chairs on Thursday morning to proceed with articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.

Pelosi invoked principles of the Founding Fathers, claiming that President Trump was exactly why impeachment had been included in the Constitution of the United States – to protect the new country from wanna-be monarchs.

“Today, I am asking our chairmen to proceed with articles of impeachment,” Pelosi told reporters from a podium in front of her office on Thursday morning. “The President leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt once again the election for his own benefit.”

The vote, if it passes, will make President Trump only the third President to be impeached in U.S. History, CNN reported.

The move came one day after the U.S. House Judiciary Committee held its first impeachment hearing.

“The facts are uncontested,” Pelosi declared. “The President abused his power for his own personal political benefit at the expense of our national security by withholding military aid and a crucial Oval Office meeting in exchange for an announcement of an investigation into his political rival.”

President Trump, who had said he welcomes the process, posted a tweet ahead of Pelosi’s big announcement urging Democrats to pick up the pace.

The Democrats impeachment case is based on the allegation that President Trump abused his position by asking the Ukrainian government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter’s connection to their government.

Democrats have alleged that President Trump threatened to withhold military aid from the Ukraine, CNN reported.

However, the only direct evidence offered at any of the hearings related to the Democrats two-month-long investigation of the Ukraine issue was U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland’s testimony that President Trump had told him unequivocally that he wanted “no quid pro quo” for releasing of military aid, according to Reuters.

The GOP maintains that Democrats are using impeachment as a workaround for getting rid of a President that they hate.

Pelosi took offense to the word “hate” when a reporter used it to describe her feelings towards President Donald Trump, CNN reported.

“As a Catholic, I resent your using the word ‘hate’ in a sentence that addresses me. I don’t hate anyone,” Pelosi said. “So don’t mess with me when it comes to words like that.”

“This has absolutely nothing to do with politics,” she insisted.

Republicans have slammed their opposition for holding hearings with nothing but witnesses testifying about their impressions and opinions, CNN reported.

“Speaker Pelosi just unilaterally decided to proceed with articles of impeachment. Even after yesterday’s disastrous hearing,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) tweeted. “She proved what we already knew: She doesn’t care about facts or truth. Dems have no case. She’s rushing because she knows she’s lost public support.”

A small group of committee chairs that includes Pelosi, Schiff, and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-New York) are expected to draft the articles but it’s not yet known what all will be included, CNN reported.

President Trump has suggested that it was time for the House to bring in Biden and his son, along with Pelosi and House Intelligence committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-California) to testify.
