Only 29 People Shot In Chicago This Weekend As Over 1k Extra Cops Patrol Streets

Among those wounded were two girls, ages 11 and 17, who were standing outside when someone drove by and shot them

Chicago, IL – Six people were shot to death and another 23 were wounded in shootings across Chicago from Friday to Sunday.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has credited the 1,400 extra officers on patrol this weekend with keeping the shootings down, according to WGN-TV.

At least 72 people were shot in Chicago in just one weekend last month.

Two of the shooting victims this weekend were girls ages 11 and 17, according to WLS-TV.

The two girls were standing outside at about 10:25 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle drove by and someone from within the vehicle fired shots and hit the girls.

The 11-year-old girl was hit in the chest and was taken to the hospital and was in serious condition, according to WLS.

The 17-year-old girl was shot in the right hand and elbow and was in stable condition. The shooters have not been located.

On Sunday, a 25-year-old man was shot when he was caught in the crossfire between two shooters, according to police.

The 25-year-old man was struck in the abdomen and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Norris Anderson, 41, was shot in his chest and died at about 4:15 a.m. Sunday. Anderson died at the hospital, according to WLS.

A 30-year-old woman was walking with a group of people in an alley at 4:10 a.m. Saturday when a person approached them and opened fire, police said.

The woman was shot in the back of the head and was dead at the scene.

At about 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Roley Johnson III, 32, was shot in the neck and taken to the hospital where he died.

On Friday at about 2:40 p.m., an 18-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when someone opened fire on him and two others. The 18-year-old was shot in the chest and head and died at the scene. The two other victims were taken to the hospital.

At 8:47 a.m. Friday, a 21-year-old woman was shot in the head and taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to WLS.
