NYPD Detective Murdered By Armed Robber

An NYPD detective was murdered responding to an armed robbery Tuesday night.

Queens, NY – An NYPD detective who was shot while responding to an armed robber Tuesday evening has succumbed to his injuries.

UPDATE: The department advised that the detective was hit by friendly fire.

Police Commissioner James O’Neill tweeted “An on-duty NYPD officer has been shot in Queens during what appears to be an armed robbery.”

It was later released that two officers had been shot in the gunfight with the armed robber.

A detective was hit in the chest, and was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, according to New York Daily News.

A police sergeant was shot in the hip. His condition has not been released.

The suspect was hit in the gunfight, and he briefly barricaded in a store before being taken into custody. The condition of the suspect has not been released.

The murdered detective was a 19 year police veteran who leaves behind a wife and two children, according to New York Daily News.
