North Carolina Deputy In Critical Condition After Gunfight

Henderson County, NC – A Henderson County deputy is in critical condition after being shot in a gun battle with a suspect accused of breaking into a vehicle.

The incident began at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Sept. 10, when a homeowner on Bethea Drive called 911 to report that someone had broken into a vehicle, WLOS reported.

The caller told the dispatcher that the homeowner and the suspects had exchanged gunfire.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies located the stolen vehicle in the area just after 3 a.m., WLOS reported.

The suspect opened fire on deputies, wounding one of them.

Deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.

The wounded deputy was rushed to Mission Hospital in critical condition, WLOS reported.

Investigators have not released the names of the wounded deputy or the suspect.

The North Carolina Bureau of Investigation and the HCSO’s Major Crime Unit are investigating the shooting.
