Nine Victims Hospitalized After Mass Shooting At Louisiana Block Party

Thibodaux, LA – Seven people were shot and two more were injured while trying to escape the gunfire during a mass shooting at a block party in the Marydale subdivision on Sunday night.

The gunfire erupted in the 300-block of Hyland drive at approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 21, WWL reported.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) deputies responded to the scene within minutes and discovered someone had opened fire during a large block party, according to WDSU.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said the scene was “pandemonium,” with people running in multiple directions as they attempted to get to safety.

Several victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment, while others were flown to University Medical Center in New Orleans, WVUE reported.

“We are still working with deputies to figure out just how many people were shot, how many were injured and how are those people doing this morning,” Sheriff Webre told the news outlet on Monday. “The crowd cleared pretty rapidly. We secured the scene and we are piecing the evidence together. We are looking for leads and if anyone can share any information with us that’s valuable, please let us know.”

The sheriff’s office later confirmed in a press release that seven people were injured by gunfire in the attack.

The victims, who ranged in age from 17 to 25, all survived.

Two more partygoers, a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman, were injured as the crowd was running from the mass shooting.

Investigators said they recovered a handgun and multiple shell casings at the scene.

No arrests had been made as of Monday morning.

A motive was not immediately released.

Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the gunman’s arrest.
