HollyMatkinSunrise, FL – New York Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson was arrested on nine counts on Friday morning, after he led police on a pursuit and threatened to sexually assault an officer’s wife.
Sunrise Police Department (SPD) Officer Jonathan Hennessy was on another traffic stop just before 2:15 a.m., when he noticed a white SUV “rapidly approaching” him, according to his report.
He said that the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Robby Anderson, had his window rolled down, and that he stared at Officer Hennessy as he drove by.
“The driver then rapidly accelerated past me,” Officer Hennessy’s report said.
The officer pulled behind Anderson in his patrol car with his lights and sirens activated, and pursued him as he traveled “105mph in a 45mph zone for approximately three quarters of a mile,” Officer Hennessy wrote.
“The vehicle then slowed down to approximately 45mph at the red light…before proceeding to run the red light,” he said. Anderson traveled a short distance before he ran a second red light.
“The driver was all over the roadway and failed to maintain a single lane on numerous occasions,” Officer Hennessy noted.
Anderson accelerated and slowed several times before he finally pulled over.
Officer Hennessy approached Anderson and ordered him out of the vehicle, but Anderson initially forgot to put the vehicle into park, and it rolled forward.
When the officer asked him why he was driving so recklessly, Anderson advised that he wanted to speak with his lawyer.
As Officer Hennessy began to put Anderson into the back of the patrol vehicle, he noted that Anderson began to “brace, tense and refuse to get into the back” of the car.
He was ultimately secured for his trip to the Broward County jail.
“While in the back of my patrol vehicle, Robert stated that when he got out he was going to find my wife, f**k her and nut in her eye,” Officer Hennessy said in his report. “He continued [to] make other verbal threats towards my family. Based on his statement it was clear that he intended to sexually assault my wife.”
“He also began to brag about how much money he has and how all I was doing was trying to…is ‘Ruin his fun,’” the officer said.
Anderson was charged with felony charges of fleeing and eluding with lights and sirens active, and threatening public servant or family member.
He received misdemeanor charges of resisting without violence and reckless driving, as well as traffic violations including failure to drive in a single lane, speeding over 50mph over the speed limit, turning win unsafe or no signal, and two counts of disobey/avoid red light.
Anderson was released from jail on $7,200 bond on Friday, TMZ Sports reported.
“We are aware of the situation,” a Jets spokesman said in a statement, according to the New York Post. “This is a pending legal matter and we will have no further comment.”
According to the NFL, this is his second arrest in less than a year.
Anderson was arrested for felony resisting arrest with violence and misdemeanor obstructing a police officer on May 7, 2017, after he got into an altercation with security officers who told him to leave a concert.
According to a Miami-Dade Police Department report, Anderson pushed an officer, and fought with police on the ground while he was being arrested.
Anderson was an undrafted free agent when he joined the New York Jets in 2016, the New York Daily News reported.
He recorded 42 receptions for a distance of 587 yards and two touchdowns during his rookie season, and wrapped up his second year in the NFL with 941 yards and seven touchdowns.
