Mansfield, TX – Now-former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Trevone Boykin has been arrested for aggravated assault, after he allegedly beat his longtime girlfriend, and left her with a broken jaw.
Boykin, 24, was arrested on Wednesday, just one day after the Seahawks cut him from the team in the midst of the ongoing investigation, the NFL reported.
He has been accused of attacking his girlfriend, Shabrika Bailey, at his home on Tuesday night, after the couple argued over a text message on her phone, she told WFAA.
When she refused to unlock her phone for him to examine it, Boykin began to choke her, she said.
“I remember him choking me and I’m trying to calm him down. And I just couldn’t. And I blacked out. I just couldn’t calm him down at all,” Bailey said. “The pressure was just hard. The pressure got hard to where I just remember just collapsing completely.”
When she regained consciousness, Bailey realized she was severely injured.
“I just woke up in a puddle of blood on the kitchen floor,” she told WFAA. “My whole right side was full of blood on the kitchen floor.”
Boykin then dragged her into his bathroom, where he stripped off her clothing and attempted to clean up her injuries, she said.
“I’ve never seen that much blood,” Bailey recalled. “I thought I was bleeding from somewhere else, cause it was so much blood.”
He waited until the following day to take her to a hospital.
“His first suggestion was to say that I fell,” Bailey said. “Then he suggested that I got beat up by a girl, or jumped. Then he suggested that I fell again.”
“Of course his football career is on the line. That’s his main goal, just ‘my football career is on the line,'” she told WFAA.
Bailey explained that Boykin took off when medical personnel separated them, and began asking questions about her injuries.
He never returned, she said.
Bailey’s jaw was broken in two places. The swelling from her injuries restricted her airway, resulting in her being airlifted to a Dallas hospital for further treatment.
She was released from the hospital three days later – and with her jaw wired shut, she broke her silence.
Boykin vehemently denied Bailey’s allegations.
“I want to be clear that the story is false,” he said in a statement, according to WFAA.
“This woman has lied about me and it has cost me my job,” Boykin added. “This person has fabricated a story and I am suffering the consequences. I will let the legal system run its course and I know I will be vindicated.”
Surveillance cameras inside the residence captured the assault, and the footage has been recovered by investigators, according to TMZ.
Boykin was being held on a second-degree felony count of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, which is punishable by two to 20 years, NBC reported.
