AndrewBlakeSan Francisco, CA – Police were searching for former a former professional football player who was a suspect in a domestic violence incident on Saturday, ESPN reported.
Police said that Aldon Smith, 28, was accused of assaulting his fiancé, Shawna McKnight on March 3.
Smith has had numerous run-ins with the police and has been on suspension from the Oakland Raiders since Nov. 17, 2015. The Raiders released Smith from his contract on Monday, TMZ reported.
Police responded to call about a domestic disturbance on March 3 at Smith’s San Francisco home, according to San Francisco Police Sergeant Michael Andraychak.
ABC News reported that the dispatcher said Smith threw a woman “around the room” and “bit her on the wrist” before he fled through a window before police arrived.
McKnight’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
The San Francisco PD’s Special Victims Unit wanted to talk to Smith with regard to the incident, but couldn’t find him.
Smith’s fiancé told TMZ that the soon-to-be ex-professional football player had called her parents after the incident, and asked them to take him to rehab.
“I can tell you this … Aldon called my parents and asked them to take him to rehab,” McKnight said.
“He complied. They went and got him. I was not there. My family took him and had him checked in,” she continued.
“I wish the BEST for Aldon. And I’m scared for his life with his addiction. I cannot comment on the altercation but I can tell you I love him and so happy he turned to my family who considers him family and hopefully he gets the help he truly needs,” McKnight said.
Smith was a first-round draft pick for the San Francisco 49ers in 2011, and but his problems with the law started almost as soon as his career in professional football began.
The football player was arrested for DUI in January of 2012, but the charge was reduced to reckless driving, ABC News reported.
He was charged with three weapons violations in June of 2012 following an incident during a party at his home, where several shots were fired, two guests were injured, and Smith was stabbed, according to ABC News.
Smith got another DUI in September of 2013, and then missed five games of the season while he went through rehab. He was sentenced to 11 days of work release and suspended for nine more games by the National Football League (NFL).
He was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after he got into an altercation with a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent at a security checkpoint in April of 2014.
During the scuffle, Smith told TSA agents that he had a bomb. The charges in that incident were ultimately dropped, ABC News reported.
The 49ers dropped Smith after he got his third DUI, and pleaded no contest to hit-and-run charges, on Aug. 6, 2015. He was sentenced to 20 days in jail.
The Raiders picked up Smith after that, and he played a total of nine games before he was suspended by the NFL for his prolific rap sheet and violations of the league’s substance abuse policy, ESPN reported.
The team was not allowed to have any contact with him, ABC News reported.
Smith applied for reinstatement with the NFL in April of 2016, but no decision had been made before the Raider’s released him on March 5.
