Orlando, FL – A young mother in Florida was shocked to discover a naked, homeless man masturbating in the closet of her infant’s room on Wednesday, police said.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, this was the second time in a month that officers arrested the man, Kevin Jones, for being nude in public.
Jones was inside the closet of a 3-month-old baby’s room on Wednesday as the unnamed woman got her children dressed for daycare, WFTV reported.
The mother opened the closet door to find Jones, who she said was naked and fondling himself.
“He seemed startled, but he just continued to stare at me,” the woman told WFTV.
She let out a scream before she moved to block Jones’ escape route, the New York Daily News reported.
Her fiancé then ran into the room while the woman took her infant and 2-year-old son to another area of the house.
The man admitted that he started punching Jones to protect his family, and said that he went to get a knife when Jones refused to leave his home.
Jones took that opportunity to flee through the garage and over a fence, but was quickly apprehended nearby by police.
He denied having masturbated inside the home.
“Jones stated he entered the residence but did not recall how,” Officer Loida Rennish wrote in Jones’ arrest report, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
According to the New York Daily News, Jones lowered his pants and began touching himself during an interview at the sheriff’s office.
Although he was handcuffed behind his back, Jones managed to move his hands to the front of his body, and exposed himself again, Officer Rennish wrote.
The family moved into the home on Christmas Eve, and did not encounter Jones in the closet until three days later, WFTV reported.
They had no idea how long he may have been lurking in their home.
“We don’t know how he got in, how long he’d been in here [or] what he did when he was in here,” the woman said. “I don’t know if he watched us as we slept.”
“To be in my baby’s nursery and to find something so horrific and experience that,” the young mother explained. “We just feel stripped of our safety, our sense of security. The innocence of what should be a serene room in our home.”
Jones was charged with burglary of an occupied conveyance, burglary of an occupied dwelling, exposure of sexual organs, and two counts of lewd and lascivious exhibition.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Jones had also been arrested on Dec. 19, after a woman reported that a naked man way lying on her porch.
He then jumped over a fence and attempted to hide under a yellow inflatable object in the yard of another residence, where he was located by deputies.
Jones pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and prowling in relation to that incident, and was released from jail the next day.
