Oak Lawn, IL – The mother of the two convicted felons charged in the murder of Chicago Police Officer Ella French was arrested on Tuesday morning after trying to force her way into her son’s hospital room.
The incident occurred at Advocate Christ Medical Center at approximately 8:30 a.m., when 41-year-old Evalena Flores showed up at the hospital demanding to see her son, 21-year-old Emonte Morgan, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Emonte Morgan, a convicted felon, was wounded by police after fatally shooting Officer French and repeatedly shooting her 39-year-old partner in the head and shoulder during a traffic stop on Aug. 7, according to investigators.
He has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of Officer French, as well as additional charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to the New York Post.
Emonte Morgan’s brother, 22-year-old fellow convicted felon Eric Morgan, has been charged with obstruction of justice and unlawful use of a weapon, the New York Post reported.
Investigators said Eric Morgan was driving the vehicle police pulled over the night of the attack.
Both of Flores’ sons were on probation at the time.
Prior to heading to the hospital, Flores posted a Facebook live video declaring she needs “to be a voice” for her “boys.”
“You not alone. Know that s—t,” she told her sons, both of whom are in police custody. “For everybody else, I just wanna simply say there is another side, and my boys’ side is not being told right now.”
Flores said she “can’t speak too much” about her “boys’ side” of what occurred that night.
“But I will say this,” she noted. “Don’t believe everything you hear and see. It’s fictitious. And there is another side.”
“My boys are not monsters – what people are trying to paint them to be – at all,” Flores argued. “I don’t believe a damn thing CPD says.”
She alleged that whatever occurred during that traffic stop happened because her adult “boys” were scared.
“I can guarantee you this. My boys was afraid,” Flores declared. “I’m afraid! Adults are afraid of the CPD.”
She noted that she is “clean” and that her vehicle is insured, but that if an officer pulls up behind her, she is instantly crippled with fear.
“My heart drops. We fear our police here, unfortunately. We don’t believe in them. We don’t trust them…we scared,” she reiterated. “That’s just the reality of it, whether people wanna hear that or not, I don’t give a damn…I need to be a voice for my boys.”
Flores signed off a moment later, declaring that she needed to go get into the hospital “to see my damn son.”
She started up another livestream shortly thereafter as she ran through the halls of the hospital demanding to see Emonte Morgan.
“Can you open the door? I’m trying to see my son!” Flores declared as she reached a door protected by a keycard. “Open the motherf—king door.”
She shoved past hospital staff and started running down the hallway, screaming her son’s name, the video showed.
“Don’t touch me! Get away from me!” she suddenly wailed as she ran headlong into officers outside the accused cop-killer’s room.
The officers repeatedly asked Flores to stop and tried to get her under control as she wailed and fought with them, the video showed.
Police said the irate woman kicked one of them in the groin during the melee, the Chicago Tribune reported.
When an officer asked her if she had “any other weapons” on her, Flores told them she just had “mace” on her keys, the video showed.
“I’m not even doing nothing!” she yelled.
“You just kicked me in my balls,” one officer pointed out.
“I’m sorry!” Flores whined.
She was ultimately arrested on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing, resisting a peace officer, and battery, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Flores is due in court on Sept. 15.
