Sandy MaloneMemphis, TN – A Memphis police officer is critical condition after a woman driving drunk with her toddlers in the car on Sunday slammed into his police vehicle while he was blocking traffic so that workers could repair downed power lines.
The crash occurred at about 12:10 a.m. on Jan. 12 while the officer was blocking the southbound lanes of McLean Boulevard near Overton Park in midtown, WHBQ reported.
Severe storms in the area on Saturday morning left multiple downed power lines and utility workers from Memphis Light, Gas and Water have been working around the clock to try to restore electricity to their customers.
Memphis police said 32-year-old Cadarius Davis was under the influence and driving with her two year old and three year old in the backseat of the car when she smashed into the police officer’s vehicle, WHBQ reported.
The police officer was transported to Regional One Health Medical Center in critical condition.
Davis wasn’t hurt in the wreck, WHBQ reported.
Her toddlers were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for observation but appeared to be in good shape.
Police said Davis was taken into custody at the scene, WMC reported.
She was arrested and charged with child neglect, failure to exercise due care, driving under the influence, violation of financial law, public intoxication, reckless driving, and vehicular assault, according to a post on the Memphis Police Department’s official Facebook page.
Davis will face a judge on Monday morning, WMC reported.
