AndrewBlakeAfter President Donald Trump scolded NFL player Marshawn Lynch for sitting during the U.S. national anthem but standing for the Mexican anthem, Lynch’s mother came to his defense.
Delisa Lynch tweeted “what NFL team do Trump own? oh yeah they wouldnt [sic] let him have one!! LMAO”
Delisa Lynch’s tweet is an apparent reference to Trump’s attempt to purchase the Buffalo Bills in 2014, which fell through when he was outbid.
Delisa Lynch then retweeted a Tweet from MSNBC’s Scott Workin that said, “If you still support Trump, then yes, you’re racist, sexist, condone his sexual misconduct & you’re a member of the most dangerous cult America’s ever seen. #TrumpCult”
Marshawn Lynch was in Mexico for the game between his Raiders and the Patriots on Nov. 19. The NFL running back had claimed that his sitting for the national anthem was not out of protest, but just something he had done in the past. Although his recent action puts that in question.
On Nov. 20, President Trump tweeted, “Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.”
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf also entered the fray, according to Breitbart. Schaaf said, “The bully-in-chief needs to worry about his own approval ratings and stop picking on people.”
The NFL player, who seldom talks to the media, has found other ways to let his feelings known about President Trump. In September, Marshawn Lynch wore a T-shirt that read: “Everybody vs. Trump.”
NFL’s anti-police kneelers have been found to be unpopular among the vast majority of Americans. A Harris poll released in November found that 77 percent of the respondents felt that the NFL players should stand for the anthem.
Fans across the country have been showing their disapproval of the actions of players like Lynch and former NFL player Colin Kaepernick, who started the protests during the 2016 pre-season.
In September, a Missouri bar owner used Lynch and Kaepernick jerseys as door mats to the entrance of the restaurant, according to the New York Post.
That drew controversy because when placed next to each other, the names read, “Lynch Kaepernick” which the bar owner said was unintended, but just to express disapproval of their actions.
