Okmulgee, OK – A manhunt is underway for a suspect armed with an AK-47 who allegedly shot an Okmulgee police officer early Thursday morning.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) has issued a Blue Alert for 34-year-old Christopher Alfred Harris in connection with the attack.
Harris is described as being five feet, nine inches tall and weighs approximately 218 pounds, according to the alert.
He is bald and has brown eyes.
Harris was last scene in the area of Central and 2nd in Okmulgee and was headed westbound on foot at that time, according to investigators.
The OHP said Harris is believed to be carrying an AK-47.
Investigators said the shooting occurred in the backyard of a local residence at approximately 1:45 a.m. on June 1, KJRH reported.
Okmulgee police were responding to a report of a burglary in progress when an officer on the back side of the residence was ambushed, according to investigators.
The officer was shot once during the attack, KJRH reported.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations (OSBI) Lieutenant Kevin Lanham said the wounded hero was transported to a local hospital and was awake and talking on Thursday morning, according to the news outlet.
The officer’s identity has not been released.
