Forest Park, GA – The suspect in a Wednesday morning shooting of two Forest Park Police is now dead, according to police.
A manhunt for Jacob Bailey, 30, started after the officers were shot behind Forest Park Middle School.
Around 10:40 am, officers responded to a reckless driving call near Forest Park Middle School, police said.
The suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, ran from the scene and went behind a house. When the officers followed him, Bailey opened fire on them, WXIA reported.
Bailey’s body was found behind a house where the shooting took place, forest Park Police Department Major Chris Matson told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
This is an ongoing investigation, and further details related to the incident have not yet been released.
Both officers are conscious and in stable condition, a Forest Park Police spokesman said.
One officer was shot in the neck, while a second officer was shot in the leg, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.
Both officers have been on the force for over three years, Maj. Matson told WXIA.
At least six different police agencies responded to the shooting.
Yvette Shepard told WXIA that she saw the scene while heading home from work. She said her daughter, who was a police officer in Orlando, lost her life in January 2016.
“The officers are only out here doing their job,” she said. “It’s just crazy.”
