Man Tries To Buy Little Girl for $100K While On Probation For Offering $200K For 8 Year Old

Port Orange, FL – An elderly registered sex offender was arrested by Port Orange police again after he tried to buy a little girl from her mother at the grocery store.

Authorities said the incident occurred on Aug. 16 at a Winn Dixie grocery store in Port Orange, WKMG reported.

Officers responded to the scene “due to the parent’s clear concern that someone was insistent on attempting to purchase their daughter in a grocery store,” according to the Port Orange Police Department.

Charging documents said 85-year-old Hellmuth Kolb approached the mother and daughter and commented on the little girl’s appearance, WKMG reported.

Kolb also asked the child’s age, according to the mother.

The charging affidavit said the mother told police that she believed it was “harmless conversation yet creepy,” WKMG reported.

But then Kolb followed the mother and daughter when they left the grocery store.

The woman said he shouted at them to get their attention and then said “Hey, hey. I want to make a deal with you.”

Then he offered the mother $100,000 to buy her daughter, the Daily Mail reported.

Bystanders tried to intervene and asked him why he was trying to buy the child and the octogenarian returned to the store, the charging documents read.

Officers found the registered sex offender sitting on a bench outside the Winn Dixie, the Daily Mail reported.

When asked why he’d tried to buy the little girl, Kolb told officers, “We all like kids,” according to police.

It was not the first time Kolb was arrested in Port Orange for trying to buy a child.

He was serving a five-year probation sentence that began in August of 2019 when he was apprehended at the Winn Dixie, WKMG reported.

Kolb tried to buy an eight-year-old girl from her mother for $200,000 at a Walmart in Port Orange in October of 2018.

On that occasion, Kolb approached a woman named Tracy Nigh who was sitting with her daughter inside a Walmart on a bench, WPVI reported.

Kolb asked Nigh if she was married and then started to say how much he would pay for her eight-year-old daughter.

When Nigh got up to leave, Kolb grabbed her daughter and kissed the eight-year-old girl on the wrist, WPVI reported.

Nigh then left with her daughter and alerted store security about Kolb.

Police said the incident was captured on store surveillance cameras. Kolb was identified through his credit card transaction and social media.
