Man Shoots Mother Of His Baby Over Stimulus Check, Kills 4 More Including 7 Year Old

Indianapolis, IN – A 25-year-old man allegedly shot the mother of his child and killed four of her relatives – including a seven-year-old child – after an argument over a stimulus check.

The incident occurred on March 13 after Malik Halfacre told the mother of his six-month-old daughter that he wanted half of her $1,400 stimulus check, WXIN reported.

The mother, Jeanettrius Moore, worked at a beauty supply shop to support herself and her two daughters.

“He wanted some of Jeanettrius’ tax money, stimulus money,” Wendy Johnson, a cousin who heard Jeanettrius’ account of what happened the day before that led up to the shootings, told WXIN.

“She had just got her money, and he wanted half of her money,” Johnson explained. “She said, ‘No, you don’t deserve any of this. I work. I take care of our child. You don’t do anything.’”

Johnson said that Halfacre wasn’t willing to give up, WXIN reported.

“He said, ‘I really want half,’” Johnson explained. “She said, ‘I’ll give you 450. Take it or leave it.’”

“He said, ‘I’m gonna get that money,’” she told WXIN.

“She said he gave her an evil look and walked off,” Johnson said. “He came back.”

Halfacre returned later and shot and wounded the mother of his baby, WXIN reported.

He also fatally shot Moore’s seven-year-old daughter, her 23-year-old brother, her 44-year-old mother, and her 35-year-old cousin.

Then he grabbed his six-month-old daughter and fled, triggering an Amber Alert, WXIN reported.

The baby girl was found unharmed early Sunday.

A neighbor told the New York Post he talked to Moore after she was shot.

“I said, ‘Why did he shoot you?’” neighbor Craig Jackson said.

“And her exact words were ‘stimulus money’… Her exact words were, ‘I am the only one who got away. He killed the rest of them.’ Those were her exact words,” Jackson told the New York Post.

Halfacre was arrested after a five-hour standoff with SWAT officers, according to WXIN.

Police said that when SWAT team members entered the house, they found Halfacre hiding in the attic area and took him into custody without incident.

Halfacre has been charged with four counts of murder, attempted murder, and robbery, WXIN reported.

Stimulus money has been causing disputes in other cities as well.

A 53-year-old man was shot in Detroit on March 16 after an argument over a stimulus check, WDIV reported.

Authorities said the man got into an argument with a 31-year-old men over his stimulus check.

The younger man left the older man’s house, and the returned with a gun and shot the other man, WDIV reported.

The older man survived but remained in serious condition at the hospital.

The gunman was taken into custody, WDIV reported.
