Saugus, CA – A 26-year-old man became enraged over his mother hiding toilet paper from him and punched her in the face.
The incident occurred at about 3 a.m. on April 6 after Adrian Yan accused his mother of hoarding toilet paper at their home near Plum Canyon Road and Mirabelle Lane, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Spokeswoman Shirley Miller said Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to the domestic disturbance at a residence in Saugus where Yan, his mother, and several other relatives lived, the New York Post reported.
“Apparently the family disturbance had started over an argument about toilet paper,” Miller said. “[Yan’s mother] said that she had been hiding it because he was using too much.”
She said that Yan allegedly became enraged and slugged his mother in the face for not handing over the toilet paper, the New York Post reported.
Deputies arrested Yan at the scene and he was charged with battery, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
Miller said there has been an increase in reported domestic violence incidents in the Santa Clarita Valley since the coronavirus pandemic lockdown began with so many people stuck inside their houses with their families.
“It was to be expected, it’s happening everywhere,” she said.
“Tensions are running high in a lot of households,” Miller told the New York Post.
She said that Yan’s mother declined to be treated by paramedics at the scene, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
