Lucasfilm Fires ‘The Mandalorian’ Actress After ‘Abhorrent’ Social Media Posts

Los Angeles, CA – Lucasfilm has fired “The Mandalorian” actress Gina Carano after she made social media posts the production company deemed to be “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano, a former MMA fighter who played the role of Carasynthia “Cara” Dune in the hit “Star Wars” spinoff series on Disney+, was ousted from the franchise on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a company representative said in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

United Talent Agency (UTA) has also dropped her as a client, Variety reported.

On Tuesday night, Carano shared an Instagram post likening the treatment of people based on their political views to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany, according to the news outlet.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,” the since-deleted post read. “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

Carano also deleted a photo showing someone wearing several facemasks with the caption, “Meanwhile in California…” according to Variety.

The hashtag #FireGinaCarano began trending on Twitter in response to the posts, with many users demanding that Lucasfilm and Disney cut ties with her, Variety reported.

“They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw,” a source with knowledge of the situation told The Hollywood Reporter.

Carano also enraged her critics back in November, after she shared a meme mocking Democrats.

“Breaking News,” the meme read. “Democratic government leaders now recommends we all wear blindfolds along with masks so we can’t see what’s really going on.”

Carano did not include any personal comments in the post, but did speak out in another tweet earlier that same month slamming the trustworthiness of the U.S. election system.

“We need to clean up the election process so we are not left feeling the way we do today,” she wrote on Nov. 5, 2020. “Put laws in place that protect us against voter fraud. Investigate every state. Film the counting. Flush out the fake votes. Require ID. Make Voter Fraud end in 2020. Fix the system.”

Although Carano received some supportive comments in response to her tweet about Democrat leaders and mask-wearing, many fans denounced her stance on the issue and called for her to be fired.

Sources said Lucasfilm had been planning to announce Carano as the star of a new spinoff series on Disney+, but scrapped that plan in the wake of her “controversial” posts back in November, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
