Kentucky Homeowner Kills 19-Year-Old Home Invader Who Broke Into Residence In Middle Of Night

Lexington, KY – A Kentucky homeowner shot and killed a 19-year-old home invader who broke into his home early on Monday morning.

The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. on Feb. 20 at a home located in the 1100-block of Jouett Creek Drive in Lexington, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

Police said that the teenager forced his way into the house and one of the homeowners shot him.

Authorities received a 911 call from the residence off Hays Boulevard near Jacobson Park at about 1:10 a.m. and officers quickly responded, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 19 year old inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds, WKYT reported.

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said the homeowners and their children were inside the house when the fatal shooting occurred.

Ginn said the teen who broke into the home – later identified as 19-year-old Oscar Daniel Wilds – was pronounced dead at the scene after police arrived, WKYT reported.

The county coroner said that the Wilds and the homeowner who shot him had no previous relationship and did not know each other.

“The family had no physical injuries. Obviously mental trauma, but the family—no physical injuries,” Ginn told reporters.

Wilds’ manner of death as been ruled a homicide by the coroner’s office, WLEX reported.

The male homeowner told WKYT that his wife and children had left the home after the shooting, but he had stayed behind to be interviewed by detectives about what had happened to lead up to the fatal shooting.

Neighbors said the family has lived in the residence where the home invasion occurred for less than a year, WLEX reported.

One neighbor said they heard the gunshots when the home invasion occurred.

The Lexington Police Department said the incident was under investigation, WKYT reported.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner at this time for shooting the home invader.
