AndrewBlakeChicago, IL – Anti-police activist Colin Kaepernick announced on Twitter that he was donating money to an organization that celebrated and supported a wanted terrorist who was convicted of killing a police officer.
Kaepernick, who started the National Football League player protests by kneeling for the national anthem in a 2016 exhibition game, announced Feb. 2 that he had personally pledged $25,000 to Assata’s Daughters, the organization that supported notorious cop killer Joanne Chesimard, AKA Assata Shakur, The Washington Times reported.
He also said his “Million Dollar Pledge” had raised a total of $45,000 for the organization based in Chicago.
Chesimard, was convicted of murder in 1977 for fatally shooting New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster in 1973.
While serving a life sentence in 1979, Chesimard escaped from prison and fled to Cuba, where she has remained in in political asylum for 39 years.
Chesimard, 70, is on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s list of Most Wanted Terrorists.
On its website, Assata’s Daughters described itself as a “grassroots intergenerational collective of radical Black women” in Chicago.
“We come together in struggle as radical Black feminists and organizers, under the shared respect, love and study of Assata Shakur,” the website said.
“Overall, we work to escalate, deepen, and sustain the larger Black Lives Matter movement,” it said.
Actress Yara Shahidi donated $10,000 to Assata’s Daughters, which she described as “an amazing organization.”
Shahidi was on the TV series “Black-ish” that has been on the air since 2014.
Comedian Hannibal Buress also contributed $10,000 to Assata’s Daughters, according to the Independent Journal Review.
“I will donate one million dollars plus all the proceeds of my jersey sales from the 2016 season to organizations working in oppressed communities, 100k a month for 10 months,” Kaepernick posted on his website.
Kaepernick opted out of the final year in his contract with the San Francisco 49ers after the 2016 season.
However, following the national anthem controversy, no NFL team wanted to sign Kaepernick as their quarterback, and he remains unemployed.
